Pylons
Throughout our art and daily lives, we’ve come to categorize certain things as aesthetically displeasing. Such is the case with power pylons and telephone poles. Photographers and painters aiming to capture the world’s natural beauty deem their work tainted by these gangly objects jutting out of the landscape. Similarly, homeowners plant trees to obstruct and dilute their ugliness.
In forming this series of photos, I’ve attempted to turn the traditional artistic focus on its head, to consider how these unlikely sculptures display a visceral and unorthodox beauty of their own. All photographs exclude people, buildings, and other references to humanity in order to separate the subjects as much as possible from the context of their intended purpose.
